As SUBTITLE, Giovanni Marks has walked where rappers and "beat makers" fear to tread on a daily basis. After releasing scores of material on cassette, CD-R, vinyl and every other medium known to man, he was discovered by Sonny Kay of GSL/Gold Standard Labs infamy and given a chance to shine in 2001. This manifested itself in the forms of a european tour with The Mars Volta in 2003, (Cedric and Omar were also early Sub-porters) lots of remixes and guest features, an EP released that same year called "I'm always recovering from tomorrow" and a full length in 2005 entitled "Young Dangerous Heart" which got great response, although very hard to find.

In 2006, he released the slept-on but superior sophomore smash "Terrain To Roam" on Alpha Pup Records with an all-star cast of producers (madlib, Dntel, Daedelus, Dj Nobody...) as well as guest appearing on Islands' "Where there's a will, there's a whalebone" with avant heart throb Busdriver.

This act alone turned him into a reluctant rockstar and member of the esteemed "Corn Gangg" whose membership includes everyone from Steve Mcdonald of Redd Kross to Nik Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. More touring in the U.S. and Europe followed, along with a brief stay in Montreal where he collaborated with the talented enigma known as So Called, Think About Life, (another Montreal band following in the footsteps of Islands and The Unicorns before them) Megasoid (dance floor side project of Sixtoo and Hadji Baraka from Wolf Parade) and fellow ex-patriot emcee Bleubird. He released his first entirely self-produced album under his real name and on his own label Briefcase Rockers in 2007. Entitled "Marks In Angles", this was his most diverse and least heard album to date. With no publicity behind it, the record still crept on to college radio playlists from LA to Paris and is a cult favorite of Subtitle fans the world over .

Along with lots of production and choice remixes on the way, he is currently working on his side project group Lab Waste (a group he shares with long time collaborator and good friend Thavius Beck) in preparation for a sophomore release, along with his newest solo album entitled "S.H.A.R.K. BAIT" while running his talent enriched collective the b.e.a.r. group for the people.
